Saint Jerome praying

Saint Jerome praying

Description

The oil painting centres on Saint Jerome praying. It is attributed to the Neapolitan school which , since the first years of the XVII century , takes on an identity of its own , thanks to the painters who become heirs to the tradition of Caravagggio. In particular the work can be dated to the second half of the XVI century, when painters of the school of Luca Giordano and Francis Solimena spread their works around all the reign of Naples. The work shows some analogies in style, dimensions, colours and techniques with the painting of the Ascension, always kept in the Diocesan Museum of Rossano.
