Altar bell

Altar bell

Description

The altar bell used to be placed on the floor, beside the high altar of the cathedral : it was rung by the altar boy at specific moments of the Eucharistic celebration , for example during the consecration. The artefact, in molten and engraved silver, has the coat of arms of the Neapolitan Monsignor Peter Anthony Spinelli, bishop of Rossano from 1629 to 1645.
