Censer with relief figures

Censer with relief figures

Description

The censer has a twin , always kept in the Diocesan Museum. The work, in molten embossed, wrought and carved silver , has three relief figures of Saints , respectively, the Virgin in the centre and two figures with the pastoral staff and bishop’s vestments , supposedly Saint Nilo and Saint Bartholomew. Also the figures of two relief angels can be seen, among which the full relief one on the cover. The two censers , used in the Cathedral to burn the incense during the religious ceremonies, are attributed to the Neapolitan Biagio Guariniello who worked in Naples between the end of the XVII c. and the beginning of the XVIII.
