Description

The liturgical use of the mitre dates to the X c. For the first time it was used in Rome , then its use spread to the rest of the western countries around the XI century. It was used to distinguish, in some way, the bishops, since , before, they did not have any headdress , either in the shape of holy bandage or of crown . The mitre belonged to Monsignor’s G. Rizzo, bishop of Rossano from 1949 to 1971. The institution of the diocesan museum was wanted by him in 1952 .
