Story of the church

Cariatiís cathedral , founded in the Middle Ages, was originally dedicated to Saint Peter, . it was the Bishop of Cariati, Nicholas Golia, who wanted to change it into a Neoclassical church , thus confirming his devotion to Saint Michael Archangel, decreed in 1741 by bishop Carlo Ronchi. Monsignor Golia inaugurated the building which was built by Carmine Ruggero and planned by the Neapolitan architect Orazio Dentice, in 1857. Among the works of the Cathedral we find the baroque wooden choir, carved and decorated by Gerolamo Franceschini of Serra San Bruno in 1755 - 1759 , bought by the Church of Saint Anthony of Corigliano in the XIX century. There are also some wooden busts of Saints Peter and Leonardo , dating to the XIX century
